Short answer: very low pile, tightly bonded carpet cleans differently from a soft, deep pile. The soil sits closer to the surface and the fibre holds far less water, so the clean is about controlled moisture and thorough extraction rather than reaching down into depth. This Coomera rental had that kind of carpet. It was not too bad, and although there was an indoor dog there was no strong odour. An antibacterial enzyme treatment went through it all, and it smelt fresh when we left.

A new customer, and carpet built for an office
In progress, carpet cleaning Coomera. The wand on very low pile, commercial grade carpet, with a clear line across the room between the section already cleaned and the section still to go.
The carpet was the interesting part. It was commercial grade: very low pile, thin, with a tightly bonded fibre. The kind of carpet you would expect in an office, laid in a home.
It is hardwearing, which is why it turns up in houses as well as workplaces. But it does not behave like the soft, deeper carpet most homes have, and the clean has to take that into account.
How low pile carpet changes the clean
The soil sits near the top. With so little height to the pile, dirt cannot sink far. That is good news, because good extraction lifts it out well.
There is less fibre to hold water. A thin, tightly bonded carpet takes on far less moisture than a deep pile. So the moisture is controlled and the work goes into extraction. Over-wetting any carpet is a mistake, and on a thin one there is even less margin for it.
It usually dries quicker. Less water in the carpet generally means less time to dry, although airflow and the weather on the day still play their part.
The difference shows. On a deep pile, cleaned and uncleaned carpet blend into each other. On a low pile, the line is sharp, as in the photo. That line is the clearest picture of what the clean is doing.
An indoor dog, but no strong odour
The carpet was not too bad. There was an indoor dog in the home, but there was no strong odour.
An antibacterial enzyme treatment went through all of the carpet with the clean. That is our standard, and it was the right fit. An antimicrobial enzyme treatment is for heavier, more established soiling, and this carpet did not have it. It smelt fresh when we finished.

Moving out, moving closer, and coming back

Can commercial grade, low pile carpet in a home be professionally cleaned?
Yes. It is cleaned with truck mounted extraction like any other carpet, with the moisture controlled and the work going into extraction, because a thin, tightly bonded carpet holds far less water than a deep pile.
Does low pile carpet dry faster after cleaning?
Usually, yes. There is less fibre to hold water, so there is less moisture to dry out. Airflow and the weather on the day still affect it.
Why can you see a line between cleaned and uncleaned carpet?
On a very low pile carpet the difference between a cleaned section and one still to go shows as a sharp line. On a deeper pile the two tend to blend, so the change is harder to see mid clean.
Do I need antimicrobial treatment if my dog lives inside?
Not always. It depends on the carpet, not just on having a dog. Where there is no strong odour or heavy soiling, an antibacterial enzyme treatment is normally the right fit. Antimicrobial is for heavier, more established soiling.
