A mattress cannot be flushed the way a carpet can. That single limit decides everything about mattress urine cleaning Gold Coast wide, because carpet sits on an underlay over a hard floor and a mattress is layers of padding that were never meant to drain. The enzyme does the work that the water is not allowed to do.

The mattress in this photo belonged to a new customer in Coombabah. A teenager in the house had a big night, was sick, and then had an accident in the bed as well. Not a call anyone enjoys making, and a very ordinary one for us to take.
We cleaned the mattress back to hygienically clean and put antimicrobial enzyme treatment through all of it, because vomit and urine together is a heavier job than a single wet patch.
On a carpet, a urine job is a flushing job. Water goes in, the extraction pass pulls it back out, and there is a hard floor underneath saying no further.
A mattress has none of that. Under the quilted top there is padding, and under the padding there is foam or there are springs, and all of it was built to hold its shape rather than to drain. Put carpet volumes of water into that and the problem moves deeper instead of leaving.
So the job changes shape. The moisture stays controlled, the extraction is done with a hand tool rather than a floor wand, and the product carries more of the load than the water does.
Antibacterial enzyme treatment is the standard, and antimicrobial enzyme treatment goes on where the soiling is heavier and more established. Both work the same way, by breaking down the organic matter and the bacteria producing the smell, at the source.
That matters because urine odour is not sitting on the surface waiting to be wiped off. It is in the padding, and on a humid Gold Coast week it comes back every time the room warms up. Anything that only covers the smell is borrowing against that, and the smell returns as soon as the cover fades.
Hot water is the other thing to keep away from it. Heat sets an acidic stain into the fibre rather than lifting it, which is why a mattress that has been attacked with a kettle or a steam appliance is a harder job than one that was left alone.
Blot, do not scrub. Press a folded towel down and let it draw the liquid up, and change to a dry part of the towel as it loads. Scrubbing drives the liquid sideways and down into the padding and roughs up the quilted top while it is at it.
Use cool water if you are going to use anything at all. Strip the sheets and the protector and leave the mattress open to the air rather than making the bed back up over a wet patch.
Then leave it. A mattress that has been blotted and left alone is the easiest version of this job we see.
The odour is the part we can be confident about. Enzyme treatment goes after the source of it, and on most jobs that is the difference people actually notice.
The visible mark is the honest part of the conversation. A fresh accident usually comes back a long way. Something that has been under a fitted sheet through a run of warm days has had time to bond to the fibre, and the result there can be a lighter mark rather than a clean slate.
We would rather say that in advance than have somebody paying for a promise. If a mattress is past the point where treatment is worth the money, we will say that too.
Plan on the remainder of the day at an absolute minimum, and we advise not sleeping on it until the following day. A mattress dries slower than carpet and quicker than a lounge, because the moisture has padding to come back out through.
Book it in the morning if you can. Leave the bed stripped, leave the room open, and run a ceiling fan above the bed if there is one. If a spare bed is available, plan on it for the night.
The treatment is not still happening while it dries. The enzyme is already in and working, and the waiting is just moisture leaving a thick piece of furniture.
Urine treatment is priced as its own part of the job rather than folded into a standard hygiene clean, because it takes more time and more product than a routine dust mite clean of the same mattress.
Size and the number of mattresses move the number as well. A single with one small mark is a different job to a king that has had a few. The minimum call-out fee is $145 plus GST, and a mattress booked on the same visit as the carpet costs less than one booked on its own because the setup is already there.
Tell us the size, roughly when it happened and what has already been tried on it, and you will have an estimate before we start. Mattress cleaning is one of the jobs where the age of the problem changes the answer more than anything else does, so the detail is worth giving.
