The job: a two storey Reedy Creek home

This was the first time this customer had used us. A two storey house, with most of the carpet upstairs, the stairs included, plus a couple of rooms downstairs.

The carpets were in relatively good condition and there were no pets in the home. Nothing about it was a rescue job. Good carpet, cleaned to keep it that way.

That kind of job rarely gets written about, because it does not make a dramatic story. It is still the one that does the most for how long a carpet lasts.

Why clean carpet that does not look dirty

Carpet hides soil well. Modern fibres are made to, and a grey carpet like this one hides it better than most. By the time it looks dirty, it has usually been carrying a lot for a while.

Most of what is in there is fine grit, tracked in on shoes and worked down into the pile. Every step grinds it against the fibre. Over time that dulls and wears the fibre, and the worn areas show up as traffic lanes that cleaning can freshen but cannot fully reverse.

Cleaning while the carpet is still in good condition takes the grit out before it does that damage. It is a maintenance clean, not a recovery, and the carpet comes back to how it looked rather than as close as it can get.

A first clean on carpet like this also sets a baseline. The general guide from there is a clean every 6 to 12 months, depending on foot traffic, pets and how heavily the rooms are used. A home without pets usually sits toward the 12 month end, with the busiest areas watched more closely.

Stairs and upstairs: where a two storey house wears first

In a two storey home, every trip between the floors goes over the same flight. Morning, night and everything in between, the stairs carry all of it, and the landing at the top takes it again as the traffic spreads out to the bedrooms.

That means the stairs and the upstairs hall usually need attention before the bedrooms do, even when the bedrooms look the same. Treads tend to show it first on the front edge, where the foot lands and turns.

If the rest of the house is in good shape but the stairs are starting to look flat or dull, that is the signal to book, not the bedrooms.

The fabric couch, done on the same visit

This customer also had a fabric couch cleaned while we were there. It had some soilage on it, and it was done on the same visit as the carpet.
