How truck mounted steam cleaning actually works
Hot water and cleaning solution are injected deep into the carpet pile under pressure, then immediately extracted back out along with whatever it dislodged, dirt, bacteria, dust mites and trapped allergens. The equipment sits in the van rather than a small portable unit carried inside, which gives it more suction power and a genuinely deeper clean. This is the industry process often called hot water extraction, though we always run it as truck mounted extraction for the stronger result.
How dry cleaning actually works
Dry cleaning methods, absorbent compound or encapsulation, use very little moisture. A cleaning compound or foam is worked into the pile, lifts surface dirt, then is vacuumed or brushed away once it dries. It is fast and low mess, which makes it useful for light maintenance between full cleans or where fast turnaround matters more than depth.
The real difference: depth, not just appearance
Both methods leave carpet looking cleaner on top. The difference is what happens underneath. Dry methods work the surface and upper pile. Truck mounted extraction physically flushes the base of the fibre and the underlay, which is where body oils, bacteria and dust mites actually settle over time. A carpet can look clean and still be holding all of that.
Drying time is the real trade-off
Dry cleaning is close to walkable straight away, since so little moisture goes in. Truck mounted steam cleaning needs several hours to fully dry, depending on airflow, humidity and the carpet itself. That trade-off is worth knowing before booking, especially around a busy household or a tight moving timeline.
