How Trimming the Bridging Branches Changed a Pest Control Maudsland Job

Two homes in one run

This customer has been with us for years. Their own place gets a general pest treatment and a carpet clean on the same visit, which is how they have always had it done. Once that was finished we went across to their daughter's property, which runs on its own schedule.

What changed at the second property

Last time we treated the daughter's house there was rodent activity in the roof void and it needed work up there. This time there was nothing. No droppings, no runs, no reason to go back into the roof at all.

The difference was outside. Since the last visit the branches that had been touching the roofline were cut back. That was the only meaningful change to the property, and the roof void went quiet.

Why a branch matters more than people expect

Rodents climb well and they avoid open ground wherever they can. Crossing a lawn or a driveway exposes them. A branch that touches the eaves, the gutter or the roof sheet does not. It is a covered route from a tree straight into the highest, quietest, warmest part of the house.

They also do not need much. A branch resting on the gutter is obvious, but foliage sitting close enough to jump from does the same job. When we look at a property with roof void activity, the first thing worth checking is what is touching or nearly touching the roof.

Cutting that back is not a treatment and it will not clear an established population on its own. It removes the easy road in, which is why the same property can need rodent work one year and none the next.

What a standard treatment covers, and what it does not

A standard general pest treatment is cockroaches, ants and spiders. That is the norm and the given, and it is what both properties on this run were booked for.

Rodents, fleas, silverfish, wasps, midges, mosquitoes and vinegar flies are all things we treat, and all of them are add ons. They get scoped and booked on top. Turning up for a general treatment does not mean a rodent program goes in, which is exactly why last year's visit to the daughter's place was a different job to this one.

On cover, Australian cockroaches carry a 6 month warranty and ants carry 3 months. Webbing spiders carry a warranty, other spiders do not, because they keep walking back in from outside. For the add ons, a warranty may apply depending on the circumstances at your particular property and on the infestation itself, assessed on an as needs basis. Every treatment comes with a report.

Termites are a hard no. Different licence, different trade. If termites are the concern we will point you at a specialist rather than take the booking.

The number follows the size of the property, how much external perimeter there is to treat, and what is actually being treated for. A townhouse and an acreage block with sheds are not the same job.

The minimum call-out fee is $145 plus GST, right across the Gold Coast to Tweed Heads area. Tell us the property size, whether it is single or double storey, and whether you are seeing anything. You will get an estimate. Estimate rather than quote, because access and the state of the perimeter are things we confirm on the day.

Pest work is carried out by a licensed technician, which is a legal requirement rather than a selling point. If you are booking a carpet clean around the same time, as this customer does, the two go together in one visit and one call-out.
