Dirt and traffic staining
The most common carpet discolouration is simple dirt and traffic wear, usually following the path people actually walk, darker at doorways and hallways and lighter in low traffic corners. This responds well to a standard professional clean.
Mould, and why the Gold Coast climate makes it more common
Mould tends to show up as patchy discolouration with a musty smell, usually where moisture has sat for a while, under furniture, near a leak, or in a room with poor airflow. The Gold Coast's humidity makes this more common here than in drier parts of the country.
