Antimicrobial enzyme treatment, and why this one needed it

The standard on a pet area is an antibacterial enzyme treatment. It breaks the organic material down at the source, which is the only thing that actually removes an odour rather than sitting on top of it.

Soiling that has been building for a long time and has reached the underlay is past that. This carpet took a heavy dose of antimicrobial enzyme treatment, worked through the affected areas and given time to do its work, then flushed out with truck mounted extraction so the broken down material left the carpet instead of drying back into it.

The thing to avoid at home, on a fresh accident or an old one, is hot water or steam. Heat sets an acidic stain and can turn a mark that would have lifted into one that stays. Blot it, keep it damp, and leave the heat out of it.

The part of the answer nobody wants

We told this customer plainly that if the pets keep toileting in the carpeted areas, the problem comes back. Not might. Will. That is true after the best treatment available, and it is true after brand new carpet as well.

People do not always want to hear that, and there is a version of this trade that would take the money and say nothing. We would rather tell you the truth and have you decide what to do with it. Treatment resets the carpet. It does not change what happens on it next.

Where the behaviour is being worked on, a treated carpet buys real time and a home that does not smell. Where it is not, the honest advice is to fix the habit first and clean the carpet second, or you are paying to solve the same problem again next year.
