Gold Coast carpet cleaning Banora Point, just over the border in New South Wales, at the home of a couple in their late 80s. Their daughter arranged the visit, and it was our first time there. One room had heavy soiling and a very strong smell, and how we handled that room, and the phone call afterwards, is what this post is about.

This was our first time at this Banora Point house. The owners are a couple in their late 80s, and their daughter organised the booking for them.
The photo shows the lounge room before and after. On the left, the darker traffic area across the carpet. On the right, the same carpet after the clean.
One room in the house stood out. The smell in it was extremely strong, and the soiling was heavy.
We do not guess at what is behind a smell like that, and it does not change what the carpet needs. Heavy, established soiling sits deep in the pile, and it has to be broken down at the source rather than covered.
Our standard is an antibacterial enzyme treatment. Where soiling is heavier and more established, it steps up to an antimicrobial enzyme treatment, and that is what went through this room, at strength.
The enzymes break the source down rather than masking the smell. Truck mounted extraction then takes it back out of the carpet.
A smell that strong and that established is rarely finished in one visit. A single treatment does a lot of the work. It does not always do all of it, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. There is more on what lingering carpet smells can point to in our carpet smell post.
Before we left, we gave our honest view: the room would probably need another couple of topical enzyme treatments to get it as hygienically clean as it can be.
A topical treatment is an enzyme treatment applied directly to the affected area and given time to work. It picks up where the first treatment leaves off.
The daughter had arranged the visit, so we rang her, explained it plainly, and left it in her hands to let us know. There was no pressure from us. Our job was to make sure the carpets were as hygienically clean as we could get them, and that the family had the full picture.
She appreciated the call, and being kept in the loop.
Tell us at booking whose number to ring with anything we find on the day. On this job that call went to the daughter, because she was the one who had arranged it.
Mention any room you are already concerned about. A strong smell in one room changes what treatment goes in, and it is better known before the visit than on the morning.
And expect a straight answer rather than a sales pitch. If more than one treatment is likely to be needed, we will say so, explain why, and leave the decision with you.
It follows the number of carpeted rooms, counted one per room, and how much enzyme treatment the carpet needs. A room with heavy, established soiling is a different amount of work from a light refresh, and it is priced that way.
Banora Point sits inside our Gold Coast to Tweed Heads area, and the minimum call-out fee is $145 plus GST, the same across that whole area. You get an estimate rather than a quote, because condition is something we confirm in front of the carpet. The Banora Point carpet cleaning page covers the local side, and the full process is on the carpet cleaning Gold Coast page.
