Why there is a call-out fee at all

What actually happens during that visit

For a carpet job, the technician checks the rooms or areas involved, the soiling level, and whether any stains need a specific treatment such as antibacterial enzyme treatment for a pet accident rather than a standard clean. For a pest job, that means checking entry points, identifying the pest actually present, and understanding the scale of the problem. Only once that assessment is done does a real, personal estimate get given, not a guess made before anyone arrived.

Does the fee apply on top of the job cost?

The $145 plus GST covers the assessment visit itself. Once you accept the estimate given for the actual clean or treatment, that becomes the price you are quoted before any work begins, so there are no surprise add-ons once the technician is already there.
